What is Too Old to Learn?

I love to watch business shows, perhaps more than I watch regular television, because of all of the information that you are able to learn .  I find them to be highly enlightening, and often times you can learn a lot from others that have either been wherever you are going, or are where you aim to be.

You never can know too much, as there is always something to learn in life – even the smartest and most richest individuals on the planet are learning something everyday, even if it is just about themselves.  You are never too old to learn something that can be beneficial to you in the end, is one thing that I have found out in life.

Often times, many of the experts that are either panelists or guests on these shows give great advice to those who are small business owners or thinking of owning a small business.   On one of the shows on MSNBC, a small business owner wrote in to inquire about when she should hire a Publicity firm, she’d expressed that she was already active on the social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin, but she felt that she needed to be taking it a step further, even beyond those mediums.  The advice that one of the panelist gave was that she should hire a PR firm when her budget would allow for her to do so – as a last resort, because sometimes hiring a publicity firm could become highly costly for someone who owns a small business.  While I thought that was sound advice, I thought that another way to answer that was for the business owner to maybe formulate a business relationship with a PR firm, that may be in need of her services, or look into other affordable options that would allow for her to take advantage of the great fringe benefits that come along with great publicity, thoguh I would have probably suggested that she tried the press release distribution and EPK service that is offered online, if she was tight for money.

Though I felt that the aforementioned panelist could have handled the question pertaining to ‘when to hire a publicist’ a bit better, I still found that I had learned some valuable information about the importance of how some people view public relations, and while that is not why I watched the show – I watch them often not knowing what type of questions will be posed on some of the shows, but there was again, yet another lesson learned . So, you do not have to watch a business show to learn something tangible, because the fact of the matter is that you can be in a department store looking at clothes and learn something, because it is all in how you look at the situation at hand.  My hint would be to always utilize every moment to learn, even from the simplest thing.
