For a regular joe, exotic travel destinations may seem a bit unreachable. Just a short trip south of the city of Brisbane, beautiful Kingscliff has become a day trip destination for locals and an amazing travel stop for families and romantic couples from near and far. This pretty beachside town has something for everyone along with beautiful Kingscliff nsw accommodation.
Surf’s up! Surfing and swimming may not be the only fun activities in this pretty little town, but swimming and boating areas are plentiful. The beaches here are far less filled with people than the more popular northern seaside resort areas. There is plenty of room to fish from the beach for the tourists and the locals alike. There are fishing contests all year around with easy access to charter, pleasure and fishing cruises for any type of adventurer, from the first time fisherman to the expert.
Tired of fishing and swimming? There are so many restaurants and open air markets to choose from. In May, the Art, Food and All That Jazz festival is in full swing. In October, take the time to see the Main Street Festival, or hang around each second and fourth Sunday of the any month for the Farmer’s Markets. These local farmer’s markets include local specialties like exotic tropical fruits. These fresh fruits are not all headed to the big cities, so the traveler can enjoy a taste of the area’s emerging “foodie” reputation.
Al Fresco dining is a feature of the main street of town – Marine Parade. With fresh crispy grilled snapper or lemon pepper calamari and beef wraps and Asian salads the choices are wide and varied. There are foods for any palate and restaurants for any discerning food lover. From juice bars and fresh sandwiches to five star Italian dinners or just a sherbert on the deck, if it interests your tongue, it’s available. A favorite of the food loving tourist, this town is becoming a food lover’s paradise. Walking the main street fills the senses.
Local curiosities include places like Cook Island, Fingal Head. This volcanic rock island juts from the ocean and is full of native flora. The Fingal Lighthouse draws tourists and locals for the excellent photographic opportunities. You are able to park just off of the road past the Fingal Trading Post and walk a path covered in trees to the lighthouse. You can splash or fish in Cudgen Creek which is shallow and crystal clear. Pelicans and other native birds nest and hunt for fish throughout the area, a big draw for shore-bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
If you are on the adventurous side, there are several theme parks within about sixty minutes of the town. From rollercoasters to wildlife, the parks include Dreamworld, Pioneer Plantation, Jetski Safaris Gold and Flycoaster. The Australian Outback Spectacular which is located just next to Movie World is one of the only theme parks with an Outback style. Movie World has a Hollywood flair with an Australian style and the best part is, none of these parks are more than a short drive from the hotels and beaches.
For the mountain climber, Mount Warning towers above the town. A mere thirty minutes and a pleasant walk (but a much more harder climb) is all it takes to see this natural wonder. Give yourself about six hours for the climb and bring lots of drinks and wear comfortable walking shoes. The ascent and descent tracks are the same, but the climb is worth the effort. The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is also within about thirty minutes of the town. Housed here are the largest collections of native Australian animals anywhere. Pet a cute and cuddly koala or have your photo taken feeding some kangaroos.
It’s hard to choose a romantic tropical rainforest escape or a relaxing seaside holiday, so why not choose both? With the distinct village feel of this beautiful town, you will feel at home immediately. From the friendly and hippy atmosphere to the softly lapping waves of the ocean to the breathtaking volcanic rock formations, there’s something to see with every turn of the head. Come to paradise, just “south of the border” – come to Kingscliff.
