The word vacation is a loaded term. It comes crammed with extraordinary possibilities. If you think about it, nowadays virtually the entire planet is accessible for a visit. The tricky part of course is narrowing down a destination(s.) Perhaps you enjoy the outdoors, or maybe the city lights are your cup of tea, or even both. Wherever your travel intentions lie, there is a spot for you. With this in mind, let’s take a look at a few places that are sure to leave you with great memories.
When you think of Bali, you probably think of something exotic. This Indonesian island has a broad geographic spectrum. Visitors are treated to white and black sand beaches, coral reefs and beautiful mountains. And Bali has plenty of attractions to go along with the natural beauty. When you visit, be sure to check out the famous temples on the island like the Besakih, Uluwatu temples and Tanah Lot.
If you find yourself in the Swiss Alps, one place not to miss is Zermatt. It is the village that surrounds the most recognizable mountain of all the Alps – The Matterhorn. From here you can take advantage of rail or cable car facilities to get you to one the mountain’s summits. In fact, one cable car service can take you to an altitude of almost 3900 exhilarating meters.
Another good option is Tokyo. There are a lot of things to see and do here. Like the British, the Japanese are serious about their monarchy. No visit is complete without a trip to the Imperial Palace. Here you will have views of amazing architecture and beautiful gardens. If you go on New Years Day or the Emperor’s birthday, you can actually enter the palace.
Art and grandeur come together amazingly at the Louvre. Any visit to Paris must include a stop by the museum, among the most famous in the world and the most visited. An average of 15,000 people stop by each day. The Louvre Palace is where the collections of art are kept. You will be able to see masterpieces by Raphael, Titian and Rembrandt among others. Arguable the most famous piece ever, the Mona Lisa is also housed here.
If France is on your docket, perhaps you will have time to go to the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer. Those who do go find it hard to keep their emotions in check while looking at this final resting place of some 4900 Americans who died in the Normandy invasion and subsequent battles. The grounds are impeccable and each headstone is pearly white.
Maybe Rome, Italy is part of your itinerary. If so, you certainly will have lots to do and see. You will probably find yourself frequenting a ristorante, trattoria or osteria enjoying the fabulous cuisine. When you do finally finish eating, a trek to St. Peter’s Square would be nice. Step into the Basilica which has the largest interior of any Christian church. Many of Michelangelo’s work is displayed here as well.
Wherever you go, you are sure to find something you will love. Maybe it is a palace, a museum or a beach. Look for it, and you will find something memorable.
