All schools offer various perks. And that is the reason why schools have their own characteristics and identity. You must have heard from different people how the school is blamed for a certain image that an individual projects to the public. Take for instance the statement: “Well, the reason why he acts that way is because he came from the Blank Wall University. All the students who graduated from that school are just like that.” And this interference is not totally without logic. A certain culture and personality is generic in a specific school due to peer pressure.
Thus, to figure out the best film school is quite easy. The answer remains to be: It all depends on what you want to achieve in your film school experience. Every particular film school has its certain attributes and features that the best thing you have to do is to find it out first. The country where this school is located plays a significant role in figuring out the character of a certain film school.
There are many aspects to consider: the course offerings, the length of time every subject is discussed, the number of written modules versus actual practice, the college incorporators and the course, significant guests appearing in lectures, the reputation of the school and if that would matter in the end of the course. I always think that it does. It supports you in your movement in the world, whether it is up or down. However, in the real film world, degrees become virtually devoid of value and what gets more weight is history and track record. No amount of argument can win against track record and innate talent. A few examples of schools with impeccable status and repute are:
American Film Institute
New York University
California State of the Arts
University of Southern California
University of California – Los Angeles
Aside from the United States, there are two noted film schools that anybody who’s interested can opt for and they are: the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School and the United Kingdom’s National Film and Television School. This isn’t to belittle the capacity of the other international film schools to teach ably the art of filmmaking but rest assured there are those that can be at par with the previously mentioned ones. What one has to do is run an in-depth research about what he aspires to achieve in the film industry, the culture that he wants to be part of, and where he can be most comfortable with.
