Where the Myall River flows into the Myall Lake, this little town is nestled next to Hawks Nest in Australia and is linked by the only ‘singing’ bridge. This bridge got its name for the wind that whistles through the beams, making an ominous noise that sounds as if it were singing to the drivers below.
Several times a day, the dolphin-watching tours leave the harbor for a location chock full of dolphins for watching and swimming with them. The adjacent Hawks Nest region is home to the area’s largest Koala colony where they can be seen and enjoyed doing what they naturally do. There are other natural habitats of migratory birds and lots of fish near this area. Fishing is one of the regions strong draws for tourists.
Trails and bushwalking for hiking and biking are all around the wildlife areas for nature lovers surround the lakes. And for those who would rather be in the water, there are such sports as boating, swimming, surfing, kayaking and water skiing. There are outdoor activities for everyone and just about every thing to do outdoor related in this area.
In the evening or for the more indoor type person, there is the ten pin bowling and squash is a national pastime for those people who like their sports a little more rouged. The less sporty of the visitors could enjoy some gambling, a game show style amusement at a nearby club which also hosts BBQ and live bands on the weekends. It also houses a coffeehouse type of cafe for those who want to relax and read while sipping coffee.
Each weekend showcases a new and different market for fresh fruits and handcrafts from local artisans. Some of the handicrafts were designed and made by a local art school. These exciting outdoor markets are always open on the weekends for those visitors who enjoy wondering through hundreds of booths, looking to find that perfect gift or souvenir of their Australian trip.
Surrounding Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest is the Forest/Tuncurry, Bulahdelah and Pacific Palm regions. Each offers a unique perspective on the lands rich forestry and the beautiful seashores. Some have secluded retreats for more private getaways while others have many shops and restaurants for those who enjoy a more public style vacation.
