Most people adore viewing a good movie. You can use this profession as an escape from reality while being paid at the same time. Is there anything much better than that?
Sometimes, people who watch films do not just enjoy it, but critique it as well. These individuals, myself included, who are so in love with movies they wish they could’ve created one. After investing many hours wishing and hoping that I could be a screenwriter one day, I did the unthinkable; I became one!
Of course, don’t get me wrong; not everyone can pen a film, just like not everyone has the talent for cutting hair or painting with oils. But if you know that you have the capacity to express yourself with the written word and you have a burning want to write a “slice of life” with hopes of it being produced; then what are you waiting for? The question, “Could I really become a professional screenwriter?” has obviously crossed your mind.
Now, you have ultimately formed the decision of trying out screenwriting. So exactly what do you do initially? It is very important that when writing a screenplay, that you use the appropriate, industry standard software. Final Draft or Movie Magic Screenwriter are two of the most typical softwares used by screenwriters. The two are recognized in every area of the industry.
Next, take a course in professional script writing. Possibly a college near you is offering courses. However, if no schools are offering this course then you can use books, CDs, DVDs, and other learning materials to learn how to write a script. Without utilizing any of these tools, it might be extremely hard to get your script produced. You will need to follow particular guidelines and formats in order for your screenplay to be considered, but if you fail to do so your script can end up in the garbage bin.
Always remember that you are composing a screenplay and not a novel. A unique outline of every visual, behavioral and spoken element in a story should be present in the screenplay. The present tense is usually used.
As you are writing your screenplay, take a minute and reread what you have written. If you can get the concept and premise of the story through your descriptions (minus the dialogue) then you are on your way to becoming a good screenwriter. Films are about visual, you present a story as an alternative of telling it. Also keep in mind that a distinctive idea, clever characters and dynamic, real conversation can put your screenplay into an entirely different category than most. Have a wonderful time in your creative endeavor and hey, you never know, you could be in the process of writing the next blockbuster!
