The Caka New Twelve months in Bali is not just celebrated by Quite Day (Nyepi) and Ogoh-ogoh (giant daily news doll) parade, in Klungkung regency there are two villages which have fun the Caka New Yr with distinctive rituals. Besan Vilage holds Mejage-jage ritual and Gelogor Village holds Mebuu-buu ritual.
Mejage – jage (guarding ritual) is a unique ritual which is held when just about every 3 year by the associates of Besan Village. Doing so ritual is not suggested for pet lovers. The ritual all starts at the village cemetery, a cow is tied to a bamboo in the cemetery afterwards the cow is released to Pura Dalem (Demise temple) by dragging and hitting the cow with bamboo sheets. In Pura Dalem, the cow is purified with a set of offering and mejaya-jaya ceremony after that the cow is cut to develop a little wound so the blood drips to the ground, then the cow is brought again to the cemetery to be slaughtered. The head and tail of the cow is reserved for material of Caru (ceremony for adverse drive of nature). For the head of the cow, it is placed as a bank of a river close to the demise temple. The head of the cow is considered to have supremacy to ward misfortune and to treatment certain sickness but those who need to have it need to take the head around midnight. Mebuu-buu is organised by the members of Gelogor Village. The ritual begins with slaughtering a cow, the head of the cow is kept for Caru ceremony. Nearly 11 PM the village customers summon the Rangda (deity) and ask for holy water to be employed to purify the mind of the cow. Then approximately midnight the village customers deliver gigantic total amount of dried out coconut leaves to the cemetery. The dried out coconut leaves are placed on a stage which is created in the center of the graveyard. The cow mind is placed inside the substantial pile of dried coconut leaves then the leaves are burned, producing a huge fireplace. Armed with sickle, the village customers rush into the hearth to come across the cow mind.
