Mentors versus Teachers

When comparing mentors and teachers, the greatest query is about who can give you the right amount of help that you really need. To be able to encounter both the college and amateur world, I can say that mentors are much more helpful than teachers. I leaned more in 2 years under a mentor than I did for 5 trying to decide what I wanted to do in college. Having this option is fairly easy for me.

Here is a thing about teachers, they do know a lot of things but they never experienced these things first hand. Due tho this, their know-how base may be outdated. For more recent information, these teachers rely on text books that are also obsolete and missing a lot of information that can’t be found outside of an actual career in the area.

I had a handful of teachers who actually did nothing more than assign homework, post power points, and grade papers. These teachers never actually gave me something and I learned absolutely nothing from them. It was those kinds of teachers that got me considering about a career in music ‚Äì something out of the tradition and free from classroom life. I wanted to be taught under somebody who was actually out there working, and that is just what I got.

It didn’t require long for me to take a side in the battle between mentors and teachers. It didn’t take long for me to see the light after I got to experience the hands on training my mentor provided. It enabled me to handle actual tools and allowed me to visualize my career in the future. There were no more pictures in books or iffy circumstances. What I encountered actually happened during the whole course of my career.

Moreover, my mentor helped meet some people who can help me. I was in a position to meet the person that is now my employer and also talked to a lot of people that helped me get references for my work applications. I did not have to do anything but be myself and allow my mentor’s connections to lead the way.

I am very pleased that I made the correct choice when it comes to selecting between mentors and teachers. Now, I find myself comfortable with what I have and I am no longer looking for anything to boost my career. The change that I need already exists and it is just ideal. I only have one wish and that is for everybody to realize that sometimes spending a lot of time inside the classroom can keep you from pursuing your dream, if you wish you can always sign up for a mentorship program and make your dreams a reality.
